UBCV Member Temple in San Jose, CA Celebrated Vesak 2555

On Sunday May 22, 2011, members of Bao Phuoc temple (www.baophuoc.org), a member temple of the Unified Buddhsit Church of Vietnam (UBCV) located at 270 Senter Road, San Jose, California, celebrated Vesak 2555 and the laying of the first brick to build the temple’s main hall.

At 10AM, the ceremony to lay the first brick to build the main hall within the temple’s estate was organized. The temple’s Abbott, The Most Venerable Thich Vien Dung, guest Monks and Nuns, and hundreds of Buddhists were offering prayers during the ceremony. After that, members gather at the auditorium to listen to dharma talks from 4 Most Venerables.

After the dharma talks, Vesak 2555 celebration began with everybody gathering at the auditorium and the organizing committee solemnly started the ceremony. The opening ceremony was followed with the reading of Vesak Message from the Most Senior Venerable Thich Quang Do, President of the UBCV’s Institute for The Dissemination of Dharma.

After a speech from the temple’s Abbott, the ceremony continued with a traditional Buddhist service in Vietnamese followed by a service lead by 4 Tibetan monks. The ceremony to bathe the Buddha followed the services, and Vesak 2555 celebrated concluded.

At the end of Vesak celebration, members and visitors of the temple were treated with a vegetarian lunch and a performance by local artists.
