On June 6, 2011, a charity delegation from the Unified Buddhist Church of Vietnam (UBCV) consisting of the Most Senior Venerable Thich Khong Tanh, The Most Venerable Thich Vien Hy, The Most Venerable Thich Minh Nguyet, and a number of Buddhist members visited and distributed presents to patients at Leprosy hospital in Ben San, 4th Hamlet, Khanh Binh commune, Tan Uyen District, Binh Duong province.
All 420 patients at the hospital received gift packages from the UBCV delegation that included 1 envelope of 100,000.00 VND in cash, 10 boxes of noodles, 1 can of condensed milk, 1 box of cookies, 1 bottle of fruit juice, and 1 dragon fruit.
The delegation also visited patients who are either too old or too frail to get out of their beds; these patients received an additional can of condensed milk in addition to their gift portion.
All patients were very moved by the action of the UBCV delegation; many of them pressed their palms together and bowed to the UBCV monks. A representative of patients thanked the UBCV for the gift and another expressed his happiness and gratitude towards the UBCV for thinking about leprosy patients at a time where economic hardship were making their lives and treatment extremely difficult.
It is known that the gifts and cash were from The Most Senior Venerable Thich Thien Tam, the UBCV’s Representative in Canada and Member of the Management Council, the overseas UBCV in Canada.
